Michael Lee Firkins - Mastering Lead Guitar

Michael Lee Firkins - Mastering Lead Guitar
VHSRip | English | AVI | Xvid 710x566 25.00fps | MPEG Audio Layer 3 44100Hz mono 63 kbps | 0:52:06 | 1.2 GB
Hot Licks | VHS Release Date: 1992

Michael Lee Firkins gives a thorough and well-rounded lesson dealing with scales and routines, whammy bar effects for unique slide and pedal steel sounds, overdubbing lead harmonies and solos over a rhythm part, blues leads, tapping effects and real tapping for lightning fast runs, fingerpicking for both lead and rhythm, Jimmy Page and Joe Walsh styles, special harmonica and banjo effects, open-string tapping styles, and advanced sweeping and arpeggio techniques and exercises.

Michael Lee Firkins falls in with the same group of guitar virtuosos as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Vinnie Moore -- guitarists who were part of the heavy metal instrumental wave of the '80s. Having played with the Howling Iguanas as well as producing three solo albums, Firkins is considered one of the best guitarists around. With this title happily on his mantle, it is no wonder that Arlen Roth and the Hot Licks Video crew convinced Firkins to sit down in front of the camera, plug in his axe and show the aspiring guitarists of the world how to wail. In Mastering Lead Guitar Michael Lee Firkins covers a great deal of ground, showing how to create a practice routine consisting of scale, whammy bar exercises, blues leads, tapping effects, and finger picking that will help any lead guitarist sound all the more authentic. Though this tutorial is easily followed and understood, the pupil should have some basic guitar knowledge and understanding of jargon before committing to this lesson.

The result is a veritable library of exciting, fun, & inciteful material. If I could dig deep enough to really give you the picture as to what makes this course so great, I'd say there are 5 reasons: First, the solos are individually so great! 2nd: the solos are so stylistically different from each other. 3rd: Paul planned the program so that all the licks & components can easily be used in an infinite variety of ways, 4th: he teaches! you why they work the way they do, 5th: he teaches you how to use them in any song you may encounter. The result is a system (truly a SYSTEM) that takes you places! These really appealing solos just make you want to learn. DVDRip | English | AVI | Xvid 352x240 29.93fps | MPEG Audio Layer 3 32000Hz mono 64kbps | 00:45:54 | 688 MB

Another perennial favourite Michael Romeo needs absolutely no introduction as a World-Class Guitarist, Composer and Musician. Released by Young Guitar Magazine “The Guitar Chapter” examines his stunning technique, and breaks down a number of songs from the earlier Symphony X albums.

The technique section doesn’t cover the development of each technique as much as it does Michael’s own particular applications in the context of a few different scale/arpeggio types (and some of this is seriously quick):
Alternate Picking, Economy Picking, String Skipping, Legato (Diminished, Whole Tone, Harmonic Minor, Pentatonic) Pivot Licks, Sweep Picking and some killer examples of his awesome tapping technique. Although a little dated (Michael really should release something contemporary for the fans!) it’s still an informative look at one of the quiet giants of rock guitar.

The passion and fire of flamenco, with its driving dance rhythms and spectacular melodies, has inspired guitarists for generations. This Spanish Gypsy folk music has its roots in the Middle East, and you can hear strains of Arabic, Jewish, Eastern European, Indian and other ethnicities in its powerful rhythms and harmonies.
Aaron Gilmartin’s clear, concise instructions will get you started playing flamenco guitar right away. All you’ll need is a basic knowledge of the fingerboard and a nylon string guitar to learn this exciting musical tradition. Whether you now play classical, folk, blues or contemporary fingerstyle guitar, these DVDs will open a whole new world of music to you.
Along with flamenco history, terminology and technique, Aaron teaches four of the most important flamenco forms, each with its own recognizable "feel," or aire: Tangos, a dance rhythm in 4/4 similar to the sounds made popular by the Gypsy Kings; Alegrias, a lighter, more uplifting style; Bulerias, the exciting and popular form played by everyone from Sabicas to Paco de Lucia; and Soleares, the "mother of all flamenco forms." In each form you’ll learn the basic compas (rhythmic feel), and become familiar with strumming and picking techniques such as the rasgueado, abanico and picado.
Throughout the two DVD lessons you’ll develop your tone, rhythmic power, strumming variations and the improvisational melodies (falsetas) and heart-thumping rhythms that make flamenco so exciting to players and listeners alike.

This is the best guitar instuctional video that I've ever seen. I own several instructional books, CDs and videos marketed by various musicians, Bresh's video is the only one that I instantly connected with and began learning from after the first viewing. Not only is Thom an extremely talented musician, but he is also a very good instructor. The split screen shows both hands finger actions which Thom explains.Thom's laid back & easy going but thorough style makes you feel like an old friend is sitting in your living room showing you how to play a tune and patiencely explaining every aspect that you need to learn. This encouraged me to practice. The video set includes chord charts and tab.I personally learned faster and better from the watching rather than the reading. Unlike my other instructional materials, Bresh's video convinced me that even with my limited talent , I can actually learn to play this fascinating picking style. I can't wait for another Thom Bresh training video release!

About the Actor
Thom Bresh is a singer, songwriter, recording artist, TV personality and one of the world's greatest thumbpickers. His style, although uniquely his own, was inspired by Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and his father, Merle Travis. Thom's solo performances and recordings receive consistent praise. He has performed with such artists as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, John Prine, the Everly Brothers and scores of others. He has appeared on Nashville Now, Austin City Limits, The Merv Griffin Show and as the host of the Canadian TV show Nashville Swing.
